The Oshawa Girls Hockey Association (OGHA) is sanctioned under the Ontario Women's Hockey Association (OWHA), who set the guidelines and policies that must be followed by leagues under this umbrella. On September 2, 2021, Oshawa Girls Hockey Association received an update from the OWHA that quotes:
"In light of this development and of various trends [Sept. 1st announcement from the province], OWHA’s Board of Directors met on Thursday, September 2nd and will be requiring (subject to any additional developments in this area) that, as a condition of participation in the OWHA, players and other participants who were born before 2010 be fully vaccinated as soon as possible and by no later than October 17, 2021."
The Oshawa GHA executives will attend a meeting (date TBA) with the OWHA, at which point we expect to receive more details on this protocol.
With this news from the OWHA, the Oshawa GHA must announce that all members (players and staff) are required to follow these policies, and therefore be fully vaccinated by October 17, 2021. We are awaiting communication from the City of Oshawa, Tribute Communities Centre and Campus Ice Centre for the protocol that will be required for patrons (spectators and guardians), and will update our members once this is received. Again, we thank everyone for their understanding.
If this requirement impacts your decision to continue this season, please reach out to us immediately.
